Draft — counsel to review. This text is being reviewed by counsel in Uganda and Kenya and may change before Wellth's money features go live.

1. Close your account in the app
- Sign in to Wellth (the app, or the web app).
- On the home screen tap Account, then Close your account.
- Settle anything the screen lists (below). Each item links to the screen that settles it.
- Read what happens, tap Text me the code, and enter the 6-digit code we send to your sign-in number.
Your account closes at once and you are signed out on every phone. It can't be undone. Want a copy first? Account, then Your data, downloads everything we hold about you.
2. What has to be settled first
Closing never leaves your money, or a duty to your circle, behind. You can close once none of these is left:
- Money in your Wellth balance (any currency), on a card, in a pocket, held for round-ups, or in a Scholar account you opened: withdraw it, send it or spend it.
- An open card: close it from its screen. What is on it comes back to your balance.
- An account abroad for your circle: ask us to close it.
- A seat in a circle: give notice to leave and be paid your savings with the committee's two keys. An office (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer) is handed over by election first. An invitation is declined.
- An open loan, an unpaid fine, or a payout waiting for its keys.
- A joint account you hold, or a family account you are a parent on. A child's account stays open until the child turns 18; to close it early, talk to us.
- A payment, withdrawal, bank payout, send, claim link or card order still on its way.
3. What is erased at once
- Your email, @name, saved bank accounts, the phones we send notifications to, your invite link, your next of kin, where you said you are based and your language.
- Your chats with Meg, our assistant.
- The names you gave for your children on school fees.
- Your phone number is removed from the account. Signing in again with it starts a new, empty account.
- Fee credit and WellthPoints end: they are discounts on our fees, never money.
4. What we must keep, and for how long
Anti-money-laundering law requires records of money movements and of who was verified to be kept after an account closes: in Uganda at least 10 years (Anti-Money Laundering Act 2013), in Kenya at least 7 years (Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2009). We keep, for that time only:
- Your money records: ledger lines, payments, withdrawals, sends and card transactions.
- Your identity check results (never document images or selfies: we never had them).
- Your phone number, only as a keyed code (a hash) that can't be read back, so our compliance team can answer the authorities.
Your savings circle keeps its books: they are the circle's legal record. In them your name reads “Former member”; notices already sent and minutes already written keep the words they had. Votes were always secret, and stay so.
When the period ends (10 years where you had money or a seat in Uganda or outside Uganda and Kenya, 7 years for Kenya only), a daily job deletes these records and the code.
Support questions you sent us are kept 2 years after they close, for complaints, as for every member.
5. If you can't sign in
Write to dev@tallgrasshq.com from any address, with the phone number of the account and what you want: your data, or the account closed. We check it is you before we act, usually by a code to that number or by your identity check, and answer within the time the law sets.
You can also ask a person in the app from Help & support, where it is on.
6. More about your data
What we collect, why, who we share it with and your other rights: Privacy policy.
